Staff Profiles
Mrs. Sue Compton - Art Teacher
Mrs. Compton has enjoyed teaching Art at the Academy for eight years. She is currently working towards an Art Education degree at Gainesville State College. She has been married for 29 years and has four children. Her youngest is a sophomore at Jackson County High School. Her family has attended SHUMC for about 11 years where she currently serves as the Missions Council Chair. In the last few years, she has been on mission trips to Peru and Ecuador. Her family has hosted foreign exchange students as a part of their missionary efforts.
Mrs. Liz Deal - Children’s Cooking
Mrs. Deal will be teaching a cooking class for the School of the Arts. This is her fourth year teaching first grade at the Academy. She grew up in Roswell and went to college at Georgia State University. She attends Meadow Baptist Church and enjoys working with the children and youth ministries. One of her favorite things to do outside of teaching is cooking! She enjoys baking treats to share with friends and family. Growing up she took cooking classes at the local recreation center and enjoyed them immensely. She loved taking home what she had helped make and sharing the recipes with her parents. She is looking forward to helping your child love cooking as much as she does!
Mrs. Carol Green - Administration
Carol Green is the Administrator for SHSA. She will be your contact to enroll students in group classes, answer general questions and act as a liaison between parents and teacher. Carol, her husband and son are long time members of SHUMC. She has taught Sunday School for many years and has served as a women’s Bible study leader for fifteen years. She worked as a Day School teacher for ten years and a Day School administrator for the last six years. She will continue her role with the Day School in addition to the position with SHSA. The Lord has given her a passion to minister to women and children.
Mrs. Yannet Rumble - Spanish Teacher
Senora Rumble, the way her students call her, will be teaching Spanish at Sugar Hill School School of the Arts this year. She is from Colombia, South America. She is a graduate from La Gran Colombia University in Bogota', Columbia and holds a Bachelors degree in Accounting as well as a CPA certificate from Columbia. She attended Georgia Tech and completed a two year English as a Second Language program, and hold an English Proficiency Certificate. She worked as an Internal Auditor, External Auditor and General accountant for 14 years. After having her first son, she decided to stay home to take care of him and started teaching Spanish. When Mrs. Rumble and her family moved to Buford, they started attending SHUMC. They are active members of the Church. God has shown her the way to use her gift of service to the church, the community and her passion for teaching. She worked as a substitute teacher for the Day School. She has enjoyed teaching Spanish for five years. Her experience includes private lessons before she joined the Academy staff as a Spanish teacher for K-7th grade from 2007 - 2010. She also worked as Legacy Academy teaching Spanish to all ages from babies to Georgia Pre-K students. She will continue working with SHCA three days a week this year.
Mrs. Tammy Grabowski – Piano Teacher
Ms. Teresa Hawkins - Guitar Teacher
Mrs. Hawkins is a graduate of Ohio University and holds a degree in music education. Her experience includes teaching private and group lessons in guitar and clarinet. She taught music education in a public school setting for many years before she joined the Academy staff as a kindergarten teacher. One of her greatest joys is worshiping our Lord. She leads the Academy Daily Praise and Worship and SHUMC 9:45 Sunday morning worship. She has been a member of SHUMC since 1998.
Mrs. Kathy Reinertson- Karate Teacher
Mrs. Reinertson has been blessed with life experience and God given talents and grace! She attended DeKalb Community College and received various certifications in computer programming. She began her corporate career in Systems Engineering at MCI. After the birth of her third child, the Lord convicted her to stay at home with her children. At that point she completed a certification course in Early Childhood Development. She taught in the Day School for 3 years before teaching Physical Education at the Academy. She has continued her education in martial arts and athletic activities. She holds a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, as well as rankings in JKD, Brazilian Jujitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Wing Chun Kung Fu, and Escrima. She has received national certification with AFAA (Aerobic and Fitness Association of America) for Personal Training as well as Kickboxing. Other activities include coaching youth basketball for 4 years as well as directing the Upward Basketball Program for one year at Sugar Hill UMC. In addition, she has taught group fitness and Karate classes to adults and children for over 10 years. She has been married for almost 26 years. She has four boys and two grandchildren. She has served the Lord in various countries around the world doing mission work for about 11 years.
Mr. Terry Shideler - Digital Imaging Teacher
Mr. Shideler is an award winning photographer that began his professional photography career over 35 years ago in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, as Sales Rep/National Sales Manager for Photo Pro, Inc., the professional division of McJon, Inc. He later became owner of his own professinoal portrait studio in Celina, Ohio. After 26 years in business, he sold the studio and moved to Buford and worked as Sales Manager, Enhanced Images, Inc. He is currently employed as Sales Rep/Instructor for Photo Barn, Inc., Lilburn, Georgia. Terry grew up in a musical family. His father played piano and trumpet and his mother plays piano and marimba. He plays piano and keyboard. He began playing piano at age 5. He took formal piano lessons for 14 years and pipe organ for 3 years. He also played in HS band, Dance Band and accompanied choir and small groups. His favorite music to play is gospel and R&B.
Teresa Clark - Tumbling Instructor
Ms. Clark has been in the sport of gymnastics since 1985, both competing and coaching. Her love for the sport has kept her involved in gymnastics with both preschools and older childre. She enjoys sharing her love of the sport with children. He goal is to provide your child with a fun, safe and rewarding experience. Weekly, we will strive to enhance each child's esteem, help your child gain strength and flexibility, make friends and most importantly, HAVE FUN! We will practice bars, vault, balance beam and lots of other fun strengthening exercises.
